Klaatu Barada Nikto!

Remake-mania continues! This time, the sci-fi classic The Day The Earth Stood Still gets a 21st Century make-over with the One, Keanu Reeves playing the extra-terrestrial harbinger of doom, Klaatu. At the moment, the film looks like Spielberg's take on War Of The Worlds. Hopefully it'll be a good bit better than that remake!

I like War of the Worlds up until the bit in the cottage with Tim Robbins. Which I suspect i've told you before. Up until that point it's Spielberg gold. Of course the end is horrid. Everybody obviously should have been killed.

I don't want to judge this, but I can't help but feel it will miss the point of the original. I like Keanu but nothing in the trailer suggests a similarity to the original character. I predict a copy of Ringo Starr's "Goodnight Vienna" to be on somebody's shelf in the background.

LOL! Ringo. There were elements of War of the Worlds I liked. Seeing the tripod begin the attack and starting to vaporise all in it's path leaving only the clothes was pretty cool. The scene that was reminiscent of the Thunder Child sequence in H.G. Wells' story wasn't bad. But, I'd liked to have seen more of the humans' defence. That whole scene at the top of the hill was incredibly frustrating. We knew there was something awesome going on over the hill, but we were cruelly kept from witnessing it! I know the story was another of Spielberg's 'father-issue' films, but man, gimme the money shot!
